What's A Business For & Etc. Post
The point of a business is not to just pocket the profit. "It is to
make a profit so that the business can do
something more or better. That 'something' becomes
the real justification for
the business" (Charles Handy). A major question is how can a business make a great profit if they don't have the consumer's trust? How can they gain that trust if the company doesn't have any good virtues or reputable integrity? The answer is simple: They cannot. The company would either go bankrupt or not get as much profit as they want. Well how do we as a company create this trust? Start by being a corporation that actually cares about the costumer and not all about what they're willing to give to you. What are you able to deliver to them? Secondly, be consistent in what you are delivering. If the goods you are providing are not up to standard and another company is attracting your costumers, maybe it is high time to be consistent in delivering better service with a higher quality. If we are not constantly striving to be better than ourselves or doing what we can do, then we will not have that growth that is required by us. Finally, after we have delivered on our part and the consumer has invested and trusted in us, then it is time to give back. In Jeffrey R. Holland's talk, Are We Not All Beggars, he mentioned a few things that fit in quite nicely with what I'm saying. One being, "He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker... whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor... shall [also] cry himself, but shall not be heard." If we refuse to give back after all that has given unto us, whether that be to the community or the Father who has created you, we are in turn being more detrimental to ourselves than we ever could anyone else. I say this because you cheat yourself by trying to cut out others. You miss out on things that are of far greater importance than money. The other thing that Jeffrey R. Holland quoted is to be read when you feel like you cannot make a difference, "What we do is nothing but a drop in the ocean...but if we didn't do it, the ocean would be one drop less [than it is]." Then the story goes on to show that others followed in their good cause. Overall, what we should focus on are the people, how we can help them, and if monetary value comes of it then that is perfect.
