Purpose - 25/04/2017
This last week has had a lot of repetition in it. Over and over again I have been learning about what my "unique talents and abilities" are and how to utilize them to the best of my ability.
The first thing that caught my eye was when I was reading Jeffery Thompson's talk titled "What Is Your Calling In Life". He stated that John Calvin argued that God endows each of us with particular talents and gifts, and that it is our calling to discover these gifts and to seek out ways to use them in the service of our fellowmen. This immediately made me think of my patriarchal blessing and so I re-read through that a few times and I saw something that I never understood before. I'll keep that to myself. However, I will share that some of my spiritual gifts I have known about already, but I have just been undermining them because I deemed them of little importance. I teared up when I started to realize how much of a fool I have been. God brings to pass great things through small and simple means. That being said, even if I do have simple gifts, not every one has them, and I too, can bring to pass many great things with my gifts.
Another thing I noticed, was that I have not been relying on God as much as I can/should be. There are a few quotes I'd like to share in order to portray this thought:
"Consequently, finding your calling in life may not be a matter of finding the one right job. Instead, it may be that your calling is to bring your unique spiritual gifts to whatever position the Lord blesses you with." - Unknown

"If your eye is single to God and you are striving to serve, then you should/can always find importance in your work." - Unknown
Before, I had always been so frustrated about not being able to sort out what my spiritual gifts are and I was constantly stressing about what I wanted to do with my life. This quotes helped me realize that it's not all about what I have planned, rather, what God has planned for me to do. So as I move forward, I will trust in Him more.
Speaking of success, I believe that Randy Pausch was able to achieve so much in his life because he not only had the imagination to visualize what he wanted, but he also had the grit to get it done. That being said, I do also believe that dreaming is an essential steppingstone in getting what you want out of life. If there aren't dreams, then there's no innovation, there's no goals, there is no motivation.Something I've dreamed of having since I was a kid is a happy family of my own. I've grown up making decisions based solely on this question: How will this affect my future family? Since I have grown up with this question in mind, there is no doubt in my mind that I will have that happy family that I have always longed for. Will it take work? Yes. Will it take a lot of rejection? Hopefully not, but even if it does, I will continue to trust in the Lord that he knows what is best for me.
