Desire - 12 May 2017
Well it is the fourth week of school and I'm starting to realize some very important things about myself, especially thanks to my entrepreneurship class. Some things that I truly desire and prioritize are affecting what I had originally planned for my business. Before, I desired to open up my own bakery, but the more I go through my studies and am contemplating the future of my life and of others, I don't think that the food business is what I am meant to do. Each day I have a longing to help those around me, not just mentally/spiritually, but also physically. While creating my bucket list, one of the things that surprised me that came to mind was that I wanted to go to a developing country and give medical attention to those in need of it. It would be hard to do that when my knowledge is limited to making the perfect cinnamon rolls.
This may go along with my personal constitution assignment that I will be focusing on next, but one thing that Jim Ritchie mentioned while describing what this was: "Describe the values that make up the ideal you." This hit me hard because it made me think of the other things that I had read throughout this week. For example, when Tom Kelley shared the quote, "Do what you love. You'll be better at it." and through all of Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk about the little things and how patience and long-suffering are important, or even in Elder Christensen's address when he states "God will assess my life not by how much money I make, but by the lives of the individuals I've touched."
I love to love. I want to work with people and have a good influence in their lives. I want to be able to stand in front of God, knowing that I did all that I could. In short, I desire to have an abundance of charity towards all men, women, and children. This is what is important to me. Through doing this, I know that I will appreciate my own family this much more. Having the financial means to do so may prove difficult, but I know that God will provide and where there's a will, there's a way.
