Lecture

This last semester of school has been incredibly eye opening for me. I learned many academic lessons as well as life lessons. Surprisingly enough, I believe I had more life lessons learned in my business class than I did academic ones. Reason probably being because a business is mostly created from something you are passionate about in your life. Some of the most influential entrepreneurs of our time do not have a college degree and that's because a business can thrive if you are passionate about what you are trying to accomplish. This is called finding your calling. However, just because you're passionate, doesn't mean you are smart. An education is also imperative and should not be discredited. There is a reason why people make more money when they have a college degree, and it is because their education helped put them on the right path by creating their network of people, warning them of potential risks, and by giving them the knowledge that can ultimately help save them...

Relationships

Growing up, I was always that shy, independent kid. Even up to the date of my baptism a few years back, I was hesitant to use the Atonement (before my extended knowledge) because I didn't want to bother Jesus Christ with my problems. Now knowing that he has already suffered for my sins, I can more fully rely and not be hesitant about utilizing the atonement. That being said, how often are we hesitant to help someone else or allow them to help us because we're either too prideful or too worried about what they/someone else will think of us? More often than not I'm sure. For example, my grandfather was always so kind and charitable to everyone. Because of this, of course there were times that he struggled, but he knew that he always had people in his life that would be there for him, no matter what. Partially what kept him so good, I assume is his self-responsibility to be the best that he could be for everyone that was already in his life and for the people that he would mee...

What's A Business For & Etc. Post

The point of a business is not to just pocket the profit. "It is to make a profit so that the business can do something more or better. That 'something' becomes the real justification for the business" (Charles Handy). A major question is how can a business make a great profit if they don't have the consumer's trust? How can they gain that trust if the company doesn't have any good virtues or reputable integrity? The answer is simple: They cannot. The company would either go bankrupt or not get as much profit as they want. Well how do we as a company create this trust? Start by being a corporation that actually cares about the costumer and not all about what they're willing to give to you. What are you able to deliver to them? Secondly, be consistent in what you are delivering. If the goods you are providing are not up to standard and another company is attracting your costumers, maybe it is high time to be consistent in delivering better service with ...

Choosing Happiness

The two readings I most enjoyed from this week are the Formula For Success by Thomas S. Monson and Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. As a guy that makes mistakes often, when President Monson stated that "This is a time when we cannot afford not to be engaged in an earnest search for truth." I wholeheartedly agreed. A mistake that I would never want to occur is having my family think that I have any priorities before them. They are my number one support and motivation. In the Life and Liberty reading, it shows that statistics prove that our average amount of happiness is inherited, and as a father, it is my sole duty to my family and to God to make sure that my wife and children have that joy. Going throughout my life, I've encountered some parents and spouses that think that they can simply buy the affection of their children and or spouse. Another statistic proves that you cannot buy happiness. When we are in the act of service, we are able to find the most fu...
